Sacred Heart University is pleased to announce a unique study abroad
opportunity in Ireland.

Professors from the Biology Department at Sacred Heart University are
offering Coastal Ecology of Ireland, which will run May 15-30, 2015 in
Dingle, Ireland. This 3-credit, field-based course is run out of Dingle's
Oceanworld Aquarium (http://www.dingle-oceanworld.ie/) and is open to both
Biology majors (BI299) and non-majors (BI199). One year (two semesters) of
general biology is required for students registering for BI299 for Biology
majors.

Throughout the two-week course, students will explore the rich diversity of
coastal streams, sandy beaches, rocky shores, salt marshes, and coastal
waters using a variety of sampling techniques. We will visit commercial
fishing vessels to witness how fish are caught, processed, and sold, as well
as learning how aquaculture is shaping Ireland's future by collecting data
alongside Irish researchers. Students will also take part in an ongoing
international research project investigating how tourism and coastal
development affect the health of coastal environments.

The deadline to apply for this study abroad course is February 15, 2015.
