The Chaparral Lands Conservancy (TCLC) seeks a team of volunteer interns
to assist with habitat restoration activities with a focus on rare
vernal pool wetlands, chaparral vegetation communities, and endangered
species at several project sites located on nature preserves around San
Diego County, California.

This internship is designed to give volunteers a well-rounded and
practical understanding of conservation-related habitat restoration work
and monitoring fieldwork in specialized southern California chaparral
ecosystems.

Internship duties include applied restoration fieldwork and occasional
scientific monitoring and surveys as needs arise. Specific duties
include monitoring vernal pools for rainfall levels and presence of
animals, repairing damaged vernal pools, watering plantings, installing
fencing and informational signs, monitoring and removing invasive weeds,
maintaining trails, and visitor contact.

The internship runs year-round with some flexibility on start and end
dates. The typical length of commitment is 6 to 12 weeks. Volunteers are
expected to be highly motivated and dedicated to preservation of
endangered species and habitats. Interns must commit to a minimum of 4
hours a week with the understanding that some work will take place on
weekdays or weekends and that the timing of some tasks such as vernal
pool water level monitoring will be highly variable depending on the
timing of rainfall.
