Wofford College’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology seeks to 
appoint an anthropologist for the 2015-2016 school year.  Rank is open. 
Candidates with expertise in ecology, health, conservation, and justice 
are especially welcome.  Candidates should have research experience in 
geographical regions outside of the United States and Europe.  
Candidates should be willing to participate in the Wofford’s efforts to 
increase diversity within our own college community, and to prepare our 
students for living in a globalized world.  
The successful candidate will teach 3 courses in the fall, 1 course in 
the January term, 3 courses in the spring, and will collaborate in the 
spring semester senior capstone course.  The candidate will teach a 
combination of catalog courses and courses in her expertise.  The term 
of employment is 9 months.

evidence of successful teaching (i.e., statement of teaching philosophy 
and sample syllabi from either a course the candidate has already taught

Wofford College is a private liberal arts institution founded in 1854 
with about 1,500 undergraduates.  The Department of Sociology and 
Anthropology has 3 full time faculty and 20+ majors.  The department’s 
faculty participate in interdisciplinary programs, including African-
American Studies, Medical Humanities, Environmental Studies, Biology, 
Intercultural Studies, Gender Studies, Cultures and Peoples, and 
emerging programs in Asian Studies and Middle Eastern and North African 
Studies.
