Laboratory and field assistant at Barro Colorado Island - Panama. A
research internship position is available to work with James W.
Dalling and Paul-Camilo Zalamea at the Smithsonian Tropical Research
Institute in Panama. This internship is funded to work as a lab and
field assistant in a project that aim: to study the seed germination
ecology, determinants of seed persistence in the soil, and
plant-fungal interactions on tropical pioneer trees in a seasonal
rainforest in Panama.
The internship assistant will assist the project's post-doc, P-C
Zalamea and the project PIs James Dalling, Betsy Arnold and Adam
Davis in processing of seeds of pioneer tree species to determine how
chemical and physical seed traits are related to seed dormancy and
persistence in the soil, and also to study susceptibility of seeds to
fungal/Bacteria infection. The internship assistant will conduct
research based at Barro Colorado Island.
The initial appointment is for six months. The start date is flexible
(the ideal start would be the second week of April 2015). To apply,
