The Schoodic Institute at Acadia National Park is committed to guiding
present and future generations to greater understanding and respect for
nature by providing research and learning opportunities through its
outstanding Acadia National Park setting, unique coastal Maine facilities,
and innovative partnership programs.

Schoodic Institute is contributing to understanding how changes in climate,
land use and invasive species impact ecology. We are collecting a range of
ecological data on plants, birds, insects, and intertidal organisms in a
variety of locations. We use trained field personnel, volunteers, and
automated methods to make observations and collect data. Our work
contributes to national and international projects designed to document and
understand ecology, biodiversity, and climate change. We seek interns who
are developing field skills.

The Technical Field Interns will perform a variety of scientific and
technical tasks, including conducting and recording field observations
according to scientific protocols; collecting, handling, and processing
samples; assisting with Schoodic Institute’s BioBlitz; and tracking and
maintaining equipment. Technical Field Interns may also help lead seasonal
field crews. Interns are mentored by the entire Schoodic Institute program
staff, with one staff person acting as lead mentor for each intern. Interns
are also advised and mentored by the Acadia National Park Science
Coordinator and other Schoodic Institute staff as appropriate. Field
Interns will work with Schoodic Institute staff, National Park Service
resource management staff, and research scientists.

There are two full-time Technical Field Intern positions available:

April 1, 2015 through November 20, 2015

June 1, 2015 through November 20, 2015
