Study abroad: University of Florida in Cuba

Tropical Marine and Coastal Ecology 
Summer A: May 17 - 28, 2015 (Travel Dates) 
May 11 - 15, 2015 (On-Campus Dates)

About the Program: UF in Cuba will give you a hands-on understanding of the
marine & coastal ecosystems of central & southern Cuba, the impacts of human
land-use activities on ecological communities, and an introduction to Cuban
history & culture. The program will begin on campus during the week of May
11th. During this time, you must attend three introductory, planning, and
discussion meetings to prepare for the intensive 11-day program. Your time
in Cuba will involve a mixture of field studies, lab studies, and classroom
lectures/discussions.

About the Location: Cuba is a tropical Spanish-speaking island in the
Caribbean. It maintains a rich culture, colorful people, unique agricultural
practices, & many exceptionally well-conserved tropical marine ecosystems.

Excursions: Daily excursions will be taken in and around Havana during the
first half of the program. The second half of the program will take place on
the Isle of Youth.

Eligibility/Requirements 
-students in good standing 
-open to all majors 2.5 GPA or higher 
-interview with one of the program directors 
-must be a strong swimmer and have experience snorkeling

2015 Pricing:
Undergraduate & Graduate Program Fee: $2,390
A $231 nonrefundable deposit for undergraduates and a $305 non-refundable
deposit for graduates (separate from program fee) is due at the time of
application. The remaining fees are due no later than 45 days prior to
departure and should be paid to Holbrook Travel. 

What’s included: Tuition for 4 UF GPA credits, all accommodation and
transportation in Cuba, meals while on Isle of Youth, international health
insurance and emergency medical assistance. 

What’s not included: Round-trip airfare to Cuba (approximately $500 USD),
entry visa ($80 USD), exit tax ($25 USD), meals while on mainland Cuba,
additional personal travel and personal expenses.
