Natural Areas Journal is seeking a new Book Review Editor

The Natural Areas Journal is a leading voice in natural areas management and
preservation.

Published quarterly by the Natural Areas Association, the Natural Areas
Journal disseminates cutting-edge research, best practices and the newest
knowledge related to natural areas. The Journal includes peer-reviewed
original research articles on applied conservation biology, ecological
restoration, natural areas management, ecological assessment and monitoring,
invasive and exotic species management, habitat protection, fire ecology and
other important topics. Included with each issue are reviews on books that
are relevant to professionals, academics and volunteers in the natural areas
community.

The book review editor (BRE) is a volunteer position that provides the
opportunity to interact with publishers, reviewers and natural areas
professionals, and to learn first-hand about some of the conservation titles
currently or becoming available.

 

The Natural Areas Journal BRE role is an important one. The BRE:

- Keeps current on new titles from publishers (review catalogs, press
releases, etc.)
- Selects new titles for review and solicit review copies from publishers 

- Distributes books proactively sent by publishers to reviewers
- Interacts with potential reviewers
- Reads and edits reviews
- Assembles reviews and provides to Natural Areas Journal managing editor 


Position requirements:

Knowledge of/interest in natural areas literature
Access to a network of natural areas/conservation professionals, volunteers,
and/or other potential reviewers
Ability to use Excel or similar software for tracking purposes
Access to mailing services, post office (institutional support for mailing
costs is desirable, but the NAA will cover the costs of mail/shipping as
needed)
