Description of Duties:  Under direction of the Terrestrial Research Program 
Manager, this position will organize, analyze, conduct and coordinate new or 
ongoing wildlife research projects.  The position will prepare reports of 
wildlife surveys, habitat evaluations, special studies, environmental 
inventories and estimates.  Assists in development and recommendations of 
policies and procedures.  Operates and maintains a variety of specialized 
equipment common to wildlife work.  Prepares graphs, charts and maps as 
necessary.  Uses statistical methods and automated data processing techniques 
to compile and analyze data collected.  Participates in outreach efforts and 
responds to information requests.  May assist with or conduct surveys, 
including low level aerial wildlife surveys.  May assist with or conduct 
surveys, including aerial wildlife surveys and perform indoor work either in an 
office and/or laboratory setting requiring long periods of concentration on 
details. Outdoor work may be performed statewide under various field conditions 
including hiking and camping in cold temperatures to high temperatures 
exceeding 110 degrees.  Activities will generally include hiking, backpacking, 
and using various transportation modes (e.g., boat, plane, ATV, on foot), and 
may involve exposure to animal and wilderness dangers. Performs other duties as 
assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The candidate must have knowledge of: 
identification of native Arizona wildlife, biotic communities of the American 
Southwest, wildlife ecology and management and conservation techniques, 
scientific data collection procedures, research design, basic statistical 
analysis, computer and manual information management systems, report writing, 
State and Federal wildlife laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, basic 
library classification and organizational protocols/standardizations and  paper 
and electronic files and data organization. The candidate will be skilled in: 
data gathering and organization, applying standardized techniques, manual and 
automated data processing, customer service, project planning and work 
management. The candidate must be able to communicate effectively both verbally 
and written, problem solves, maintain interpersonal relationships, organize and 
operate and maintain personal computer and software. The candidate must have a 
Bachelor's degree in a wildlife science or closely related field and have two 
years of professional work experience. Candidates with experience 
trapping/handling small mammals and identifying passerine birds by sight and 
sound desired.

current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
