The Early Career Ecologist Section of the Ecological Society of America
seeks mentors for our early career mentoring program in coordination
with ESA's 2015 Centennial Annual Meeting in Baltimore, MD.

Mentoring is an important but often unstructured process that promotes
the professional development of ecologists at early career stages.
Establishing professional relationships outside of one's institution is
a particularly common challenge cited by early career ecologists, though
conferences provide an opportunity for meaningful interactions between
early career and more senior ecologists across institutions and career
pathways. Given this need and opportunity, the Early Career Ecologist
Section mentoring program pairs early career ecologists (advanced
graduate students and recent post-graduates) with established ecologists
across career pathways for the week of the ESA annual meeting. Mentor
and mentee pairs are established based on alignment of subject area and
career goals.

We now seek mentors to participate in the program. Mentors who become
paired with an early career mentee will be asked to attend and provide
feedback on their mentee's oral presentation and to discuss practical
aspects of their careers with their mentee.

To volunteer as a possible mentor (depending on alignment with a
suitable mentee), please email the Early Career Ecologist Section at
[email protected] with a brief description of your ecological area of
expertise and career type (e.g. policy, conservation agency, research
institution, academic [and type of institution], etc.). All volunteer
mentors are valuable as we seek to serve a diverse pool of early career
mentees.

For more information on the mentoring program and our other initiatives,
please visit our website at http://esa.org/earlycareer or visit our
mentor announcement directly at http://bit.ly/1H0k7nA (PDF file)

On behalf of the Early Career Ecologist Section and our mentees, we
greatly appreciate your consideration for participating as a mentor in
this program.
