Sponsored by Mascaro Center for Sustainable Initiatives at the University
of Pittsburgh, the Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and the USDA Forest
Service Northern Research Station

Join us for an international symposium on the impacts of disturbance and
salvage logging in forest ecosystems at the Powdermill Nature Reserve,
Pennsylvania on Friday, May 29 – Sunday, May 31, 2015. The meeting will
bring together leading international disturbance and salvage logging
research teams and forest managers to share their experiences on the
ecological and economic costs and benefits from a diverse set of forest
biomes and disturbances in North America, Europe, and Asia.

On Saturday afternoon, a Poster Session Social will be held and we welcome
all registrants share their current research with the group. We encourage
any submissions in the broader theme of forest ecology so as to enrich and
diversify the meeting.

Immediately following the formal meeting on Sunday, we will offer an
optional afternoon field trip to visit ongoing forestry research in the
region, including a new landscape-scale field experiment designed to
evaluate the sustainability of salvaging in the context of white-tailed
deer overbrowsing and competition by dense recalcitrant understory
herbaceous layers.

Registration: Registration is now available at:
http://www.carnegiemnh.org/powdermill/symposium/.

Space is limited and we will close registration once we reach capacity.

Cost: $35 for Students, $55 for others and covers food and beverages
beginning from Saturday lunch through Sunday Breakfast. If you’ll be
attending the optional field trip and would like a boxed lunch, please add
$10.
