Ornithology Volunteer Field Technicians 
Duration: mid-July until the end of August
Compensation: No salary; room and board covered
Location: Central Sierra Nevada, CA

Description: Seeking 2 full-time field technicians to assist with ornithology 
research at Valentine 
Eastern Sierra Reserve and Yosemite National Park. This project is part of PhD 
dissertation 
research focused on bird diet in the central Sierra Nevada.

Primary duties include mist-netting, banding, and fecal collection. Applicants 
should expect to 
work early in the morning with long days in sometimes challenging conditions. 

Qualifications: Ideal candidate will have previous mist-netting and banding 
experience, be self-
motivated, and have a positive attitude. Must have previous hiking experience 
and be able to 
hike 7+ miles per day over rough terrain and elevation changes carrying up to 
30 pounds of field 
equipment. Candidate must be willing and able to work as part of a team. 
Familiarity with the 
passerines of the Sierra Nevada a plus.

Position will run from mid-July to the end of August (approximately 1.5 
months). Technician will 
be expected to work 5-6 days per week with 1-2 days per week off. 

This is an unpaid position. Housing and food at the field station will be 
provided. Some camping 
will be necessary, and camping fees, tent, and food will be covered. Transport 
to and from 
Valentine Eastern Sierra Reserve field station may be able to be arranged if 
the technician is in 
the California or Nevada area, but otherwise the technician will be expected to 
cover their own 
travel.
