Staff Scientist (Science Educator)
The Science educator works with NEON staff and the science/data
informatics community to develop an online suite of resources,
including training materials, tools, videos, graphics, data
visualizations, data-focused activities that support the use of NEON
and other complementary data to answer grand challenge science
questions. These resources will be used for both online tutorials and
courses and in person delivery through workshops and in classrooms.
Material development will focus on data literacy concepts including
the use of key data formats (e.g. spatial data, text files and
hierarchical data formats) in open source tools including R, Python
and others and the application of using NEON data to answer local to
continental scale science questions. Materials will also cover data
visualization and issues and methods associated with data fusion. The
Science Educator will ensure that resources are pedagogically
appropriate for key audiences including academic (undergraduate and
graduate level) and professional (scientists and faculty). The
candidate will also work closely the education and public engagement
teams to support development of student programs including
undergraduate research experiences and a graduate course.
