*Graduate Research Assistantship (MS) – Understanding relocation effects on
freshwater mussels. Biology Department and Institute of Great Lakes
Research, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, MI*


Responsibilities: The successful applicant will conduct a research project
on the relocation effects on freshwater mussels in the lower peninsula of
Michigan.  They will work with Dr. Daelyn Woolnough to answer questions
about the recovery of this highly endangered group of animals and
ultimately lead to a comprehensive thesis.  Research assistantships will be
available throughout the summers and teaching and/or research
assistantships will be available through the school year.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful applicant should be highly motivated and
have a B.S. in fisheries, ecology, biology, zoology or closely related
field and should be able to work independently in the field and lab. The
applicant should be able to tolerate various weather conditions,
demonstrate attention to detail, and show evidence of high quality writing
skills.  Field experience, such as experience with identification of fish,
aquatic invertebrates or unionid mussels, is desirable. Previous experience
in Geographic Information Systems and/or statistics would be beneficial but
not a necessity.


Minimum academic qualifications include 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 system), GRE
scores must be sent to CMU graduate school for approval. Additional

Salary: ~$18,000 per year plus tuition.
