I am a PhD candidate at Stony Brook University, looking for
undergraduates/interns/Masters students interested in collecting
hummingbird physiology data in the field near Cuenca, Ecuador. This
exciting physiological ecology project is aimed at studying hummingbird
energy use and associated aspects of their ecology. I am ideally looking
for an Ecuadorian field assistant, but others with their own funding are
strongly encouraged to apply (I can cover food and accommodation).
Requirements: Adaptability to uncertain field conditions (working in the
tropics is an adventure!), an interest in birds or any wildlife,
willingness to tolerate irregular hours (early mornings and all-
nighters), to learn new techniques, to walk in the mountains, a good
sense of humor, ability to communicate in English.
Preferable but not necessary: A degree in biology, past experience
handling birds, liking any kind of music, ability to speak Spanish.
When: **June 20, 2015 - January 11, 2016**.
Minimum time period: 6 weeks; preferably 8 weeks. Possibility of an
extension to the whole 7 months.
