Dear Colleagues, We would like to draw your attention to an AGU Fall Meeting session on the topic of "Forest canopy Structure: Remote Sensing Observations and Modelling of Its Influence on Radiation Regimes and Gas Exchanges" https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm15/preliminaryview.cgi/Session8166 The invited speakers are: Shawn Serbin (Brookhaven National Laboratory) Fabian Schneider (ETH Zürich) Ben Poulter (Montana State University) Jan van Aardt (Rochester Institute of Technology) The abstract submission deadline is on August 5; the submission portal and guidelines are found here: http://fallmeeting.agu.org/2015/abstract-submissions/ Best regards, Martin, Hideki, Tristan and Brady **Session details** Session ID#: 8166 Session Description: Forest canopy structure influences the solar radiation measured from satellite sensors used to map essential climate variables and leaf biochemistry. It also influences nonlinear processes regulating the exchange of CO2 and water vapour with the atmosphere. Advances in remote sensing technology (e.g. LiDAR, RADAR) offer improved capacities to characterise canopy structure and examine its influence at spatial scales ranging from plot to global. We invite contributions investigating the retrieval of forest structure information from remote sensing, and the use forest structure information in radiative transfer, biophysical, vegetation dynamics, or terrestrial biosphere models. Conveners: Martin Beland (Laval University, Quebec City, QC, Canada) Hideki Kobayashi (JAMSTEC Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, Kanagawa, Japan) Tristan L Quaife (University of Reading, Reading, United Kingdom) Brady S Hardiman (Boston University, Boston, MA, United States)
