Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to submit abstracts to the AGU 2015 Fall Meeting session #8216:
“Changes From
Snow To Rain: Observation, Prediction, and Consequences”. Abstract must be
submitted not later
than August 5th, 2015.

We are also exited to announce the following confirmed presenters, whose
backgrounds cover an
array of approaches on the topic.

Danny Marks, USDA-ARS
John Pomeroy, University of Saskatchewan
Sarah Kapnick, NOAA and Princeton

Session Description:
Regional warming is altering winter precipitation phase from snow to rain in
many parts of the
world. Changes in snowfall regimes have the potential to alter the land
surface water balance,
hydrologic partitioning, occurrence of extreme events, biogeochemical
processes, and ecological
functions. Although some observations have quantified these changes over a
variety of time scales
and locations, in general, data from observational networks are limited and
poorly synthesized.
Likewise, models capable of predicting precipitation phase, especially spatial
changes, are
rudimentary and often unverified. This session will focus on research
exploring new measurement
techniques, data synthesis efforts, and modeling approaches to better quantify
the spatiotemporal
dynamics in precipitation phase. Investigations that integrate these
approaches to understand the
past or future consequences of these changes on hydrological, ecological, or
biogeochemical
dynamics are encouraged. The session's goal is to include both well-studied
and poorly studied
geographic areas comprising a regional to global perspective.

Conveners:
Adrian Adam Harpold, University of Nevada, Reno
Timothy Link, Univeristy of Idaho
Seshadri Rajagopal, Desert Research Institute
John Abatzoglou, University of Idaho
