*Overview*

Cramer Fish Sciences (CFS) is a fisheries research consulting firm that
serves the Pacific Northwest and California. Our mission is to rigorously
apply the scientific method to afford our clients innovative,
scientifically robust solutions to address a variety of fisheries and
environmental challenges. The CFS team achieves this through effective and
unbiased data collection, insightful analysis and interpretation, and clear
communications. The Sr. Biologist provides support for the organization by
leading efforts in conducting fieldwork and data collections, data analysis
and problem solving for our clients. Additionally, the Sr. Biologist
provides project management leadership.

*Essential Duties and Responsibilities:*

   - Manage and lead all efforts with regard to projects including
   supervision of staff and budget management
   - Provide guidance and oversee hypothesis testing, data collection,
   statistical analysis and problem solving for various projects, studies and
   other assignments for clients
   - Complete research, technical writing and analysis of data related to
   project tasks as assigned, summarize and display data
   - Develop scope, write proposals, objectives, tasks, and budget for
   small projects
   - Work closely with Senior Scientists and follow outlines provided by
   Project Managers to develop project reports including graphs and data
   summaries
   - Serve as a task lead on multiple projects and guide Biologists and
   Technicians successfully in order to help support the project work and data
   collection needed
   - Maintain client relationships and distribute periodic project updates
   for lead projects. Attend client meetings
   - Attend and present at scientific meetings; provide guidance to
   Biologists and Technicians for presenting at scientific or industry meetings
   - Conduct literature reviews and increase familiarity with scientific
   literature relevant to projects
   - Perform other duties as assigned

*Critical Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (required):*

   - *Fisheries and/or Restoration Expertise:* Knowledge and experience
   with the scientific method and specific fisheries related science.
   Participates in the authoring of peer-reviewed publications. Demonstrated
   ability to identify for acquisition complex, dynamic aquatic resource
   projects with State, Federal, Tribal and Industry partners. Ability to
   identify and pursue emerging fisheries and aquatic issues.
   - *Project Management Skills:* Co-manage with Biologists on several
   projects and serve as the Project/Task Lead. Track project budget and
   complete all required products/reports for lead projects.
   - *Team Leadership Skills:* Within a team and Employee Stock Ownership
   Plan (ESOP) culture, sets personal high performance and quality standards
   and enables the team to be successful. Views all members of the team as
   critical and important and treats team members with respect and
   professionalism. Able to collaborate and leverage member strengths.
   Mentors/develops Technician and Biology team members.
   - *Science-Business balance:* This individual should demonstrate
   expertise and be passionate about science, natural resources and resolving
   complex fishery problems. In addition, the individual should have an
   understanding of management and business functions to help manage CFS as a
   profitable business.

   - Knowledge and management of all state and federal permitting
   requirements for active projects
   - Ability to complete and/or delegate work assigned by Senior Scientists
   - Demonstrated leadership skills including ability to lead, train and
   supervise field crews in data entry, analysis and other aspects of project
   work
   - Ability to conduct sophisticated statistical analysis of biological
   data
   - Ability to work independently with strong organization and
   coordination skills
   - Ability to handle multiple tasks with overlapping deadlines
   - Ability to accurately interpret and follow established guidelines and
   procedures and communicate accordingly to staff
   - Ability to produce scientifically accurate, timely and quality work
   products and be accountable for meeting objectives

*Desired Experience:*

   - Strong coaching and leadership skills, with proven ability to motivate
   and guide staff towards success
   - Demonstrated knowledge and aptitude for quantitative analysis,
   including intermediate level statistics, mark-recapture analysis, and stock
   recruitment relationships
   - Aquatic science experience

*Education/Minimum Qualifications:*

   - Bachelor's degree in fisheries, biology or equivalent science related
   field plus 3-5 years of successful and sustained performance in Biologist
   positions.
   - MS or PhD in a science related discipline a plus
   - Demonstrated skills in data management and entry, developing graphs
   and data analysis including communication of project methods and findings
   in presentations and reports

*Working Conditions and Physical Demands:*

   - Possible long periods of computerized data analysis in an office
   environment
   - Must be comfortable working in the aquatic environment including
   working from a boat platform, swimming and wading in rivers and streams
   - Must be able to work effectively in inclement weather, including hot,
   cold, rain and fog and environments that harbor nuisance plants and animals
   - Strong swimming skills required for water-based field work
   - Ability to lift 50 pounds
   - Working irregular hours in various kinds of weather and potentially
   rugged terrain in order to meet project deadlines
   - Occasional travel (~10%)
