The S.J. and Jessie E. Quinney College of Natural Resources at Utah State
University
is seeking highly qualified applicants for the Fritz Knopf Doctoral Fellowship
in Avian
Ecology and Conservation. The selected applicant will develop their own
research
questions centered around the impacts of concurrent change in climate and
anthropogenic land use on avian population and community dynamics. Possible
areas
of emphasis might include: a) the integration of abundance and vital rate data
to
examine cross-seasonal drivers of grassland songbird population dynamics
through a
collaboration with the Bird Conservancy of the Rockies (formerly RMBO;
http://www.birdconservancy.org/), b) comparison of prediction and forecasting
abilities between scalar state-space population models and structured
integrated
population models applied to the abovementioned theme, and c) other topics that
can
be addressed at landscape scale extents in honor of Fritz Knopf’s
accomplishments
in avian conservation (additional details about the fellowship program are
provided at
http://davidkoons.webs.com/opportunities).

The fellowship includes tuition and fees provided by the University, health

start date is
January 6, 2016 (start of the spring semester), but a different start date is
negotiable.
Competitive applicants will have experience organizing and analyzing data,
presenting
and publishing ecological research, working collaboratively, and strong
backgrounds
in quantitative methods, computer programming, and GIS. Applicants should email
the following materials as a single PDF file with the subject line “Knopf PhD
Fellowship” to [email protected]: (a) one page cover letter describing
