Do you teach field courses? If so, how do you manage risk and reduce the
likelihood of serious injuries on extended trips with students?

I am developing an online risk management (a.k.a. safety) training for
people who teach university field courses and would like YOUR input. Please
consider responding to this short anonymous survey:

I am also interested in hearing about the risk management practices at your
institution. If you aren’t interested in responding to the survey, but
would like to carry on a conversation on the EcoLog, please consider the
following:
• Do you teach field courses? If so, where do you go and for how long?
• Do you require faculty / instructors to be medically trained when they
take students on overnight field courses? If so, what level of certification
do you require?
• Do you have written protocols to guide faculty/instructor decisions in the
field (i.e. maximum faculty : student ratio on field courses, when to
retreat in case of lightning, how long to wait before taking a student with
a stomachache to the doctor)?
• Does your institution have a written emergency response plan that includes
a designated on-call person?

Thank you for your interest!
