*Stream Resiliency Research Coordination Network*

*Call for Applications for Participation*

We are seeking 12-14 highly motivated aquatic scientists spanning a range
of career stages, scientific expertise, and research experience to
participate in a collaborative working group to advance our understanding
of temporal patterns and responses in stream ecosystems, with an emphasis
towards the context of perturbations and disturbance.

This working group will address questions central to understanding temporal
variability in stream ecosystems from a variety of ecological
perspectives. Core questions that address ecological challenges associated
with understanding and predicting temporal change will be developed at the
outset of the group. Activities related to the pursuit of these questions
will include collecting and collating appropriate long-term and high
frequency datasets, guided application of analytical frameworks and
techniques, and collaborative involvement in products. Outside mentors
will provide guidance in statistical approaches to time series analysis,
including spectral analysis (specifically Fourier and wavelet analysis),
multivariate autoregressive (MAR) models, and additional tools necessary
for answering the research questions posed by the working group.

General activities for this working group include:

1. Data assembly and organization, online webinars, and exercises
designed to develop the research focus and analytical expertise of the
group. This phase will begin in November 2015 and extend through September
2016.

2. A half-day meeting during the Society for Freshwater Science annual
meeting (May 21-26, 2016), Sacramento, CA, to refine research ideas and
prepare for the upcoming workshop at SESYNC.

3. A 4-day workshop (October 2016) at the National Socio-Environmental
Synthesis Center (SESYNC), Annapolis, MD. Travel, accommodations, and per
diem expenses will be covered for working group participants.

4. Post-workshop completion of products, networked collaboration with
group members and mentors, and other related follow-up activities.

Participants are expected to participate in both pre- and post-workshop
activities including biweekly webinar meetings, data assembly and analysis,
and product development as well as attend the 4-day workshop at SESYNC.
Individuals that are currently involved in research exploring temporal
dynamics in stream ecosystems are especially encouraged to apply.
