Dear colleagues:

Please consider sharing your story about communicating science to
policymakers at the 2016 Ocean Sciences Meeting. The abstract submission
deadline is next week, 23 September 2015.

Session ID#: 8177

Bringing science to the forefront of policy discussions is important for
sound decision-making and the sustainability of the world's aquatic systems.
Aquatic science and research can inform policies to address some of the most
challenging societal problems including rising sea levels and the impact of
pollution on aquatic ecosystems. Understanding the interaction between the
aquatic environment and our natural resources, public and environmental
safety, national security, and the global economy requires a wide range of
expertise, including the scientific community.

Many scientists want to broaden the impact of their research, but don’t know
how or where to start. In this session, presenters will discuss how they've
engaged with policymakers, what policymakers want to know, and what kinds of
contributions scientists can make to policy development and implementation.

Best regards,
