ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN MARINE SCIENCE The Marine Science Institute, established in 1941, is experiencing exciting growth in its nationally and internationally recognized research programs. In support of this growth, The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the Department of Marine Science. We seek innovative and productive scientists who are addressing critical issues in marine science. The position, to be filled at the Assistant Professor rank, will complement expertise of current faculty. These areas of marine science may include, but are not limited to: coastal physical oceanography, environmental toxicology, natural products chemistry, ontogeny and nutritional physiology of fishes, and invertebrate biology.
The position is located at the Marine Science Institute (www.utmsi.utexas.edu) in Port Aransas, Texas, which offers outstanding facilities in close proximity to a variety of unique estuarine, coastal and blue water habitats, including the 185,708-acre NOAA Mission-Aransas National Estuarine Research Reserve (www.missionaransas.org). The Institute also has well developed marine education and outreach infrastructure for disseminating research. The successful applicant will be expected to establish an externally funded independent research program, provide excellent training for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, and contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching in the department. Faculty members commit two-thirds time to research and one-third time to teaching.
