Dear Subscribers,
Occupational health and safety regulations are established to protect workers from on-the-job injuries. United States Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) oversees these public policy regulations – which include specific requirements for health and safety training. Employers that staff field biologists must provide relevant health and safety training. For a number of reasons, it may be difficult for some small businesses, non-profit organizations, and public agencies to develop credible, comprehensive training materials to help protect employees from on-the-job injuries associated with biological field work. Though these training materials are easily accessed for many trades and industries, quality training materials applicable to hazards of the field biology professions are not readily available. Furthermore, many employers may be unaware of requirements for health and safety training. While biologists are working in the field with inadequate training, employers may be in violation of OSHA regulations. Nature's Capital, LLC has initiated a fundraising campaign to support development of health and safety training modules for the field biology professions. The project will apply proven adult education approaches in development of learning objectives, lesson plans, presentation materials, learning activities, and training certification assessments. Products developed through this fundraising campaign will be relevant to (for example) environmental consulting firms, local and regional land trusts, state agencies, or small municipalities. Funds raised through this campaign will be used to support salary, office overhead, and professional consultant fees.
