Assistant Professor - Plant Ecologist. 
 
The Department of Biological Sciences at the East Tennessee State University
invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track Assistant Professor
position in the area of plant ecology. Successful applicants will have a
Ph.D. or equivalent, record of research excellence as demonstrated by
publications in plant ecology or related fields, and an ability to develop
an extramurally funded research program in an area of plant ecology.
Teaching duties may include freshman-level biology and upper-level or
graduate courses such as plant ecology or population biology. Candidates
with research on the vegetation of the Appalachians and the southeast US are

The Department of Biological Sciences currently comprises eighteen faculty
members engaged in a wide range of teaching and research activities. The
Department houses the J.C. Warden Herbarium (ETSU), which specializes in the
regional flora. The Department serves approximately 500 majors and 40 M.S.
and Ph.D. students. East Tennessee State University enrolls over 12,000
undergraduate students, and offers 40 master’s degree programs, 12 doctoral
degree programs, and 24 graduate certificates to over 2,300 graduate
students. ETSU is located in Johnson City, Tennessee, a city of about 65,000
located in the southern Appalachian Mountains. The region has a total
population of more than 400,000 and combines a low cost of living with
amenities found in larger urban areas. The region has abundant public lands
(National Forests, State Parks, etc.) easily accessible.
