Description of Duties:

The Arizona Game and Fish Department's mission is to conserve Arizona's diverse 
wildlife resources and manage for safe, compatible outdoor recreation 
opportunities for current and future generations.  The Department's Research 
Branch is responsible for conducting robust research and providing scientific 
information to inform and support the sound management and professional 
stewardship of Arizona's fish and wildlife resources.

Under the supervision of the Research Branch Chief, this position assists with 
development of research study plans and analysis of research data in support of 
identified management information needs, provides statistical expertise and 
support in the design of wildlife management monitoring and survey protocols, 
provides statistical consulting in support of Department wildlife management 
activities, conducts statistical analyses and modeling in support of research 
or monitoring efforts, collaborates or works independently on preparation of 
reports and publications, and assists with interpretation of statistical 
publications.  May provide statistical, mathematical or modeling training to 
Department staff, provide recommendations for statistical software and database 
formats, participate and represent the Department in workshops or meetings 
concerning statistical and biological matters, and assist and/or observe 
biologists and techniques in the field to evaluate existing and/or develop new 
sampling protocols to achieve research or monitoring objectives. Performs other 
duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: (KSA's): The ideal candidate will have 
demonstrated experience and knowledge in the following areas:  experimental 
design and advanced applied statistical techniques, demographic modeling, 
survival analysis, resource selection and habitat modeling, wildlife survey and 
monitoring techniques, and analysis of survey and monitoring data, with 
demonstrated application in a wildlife management and conservation context.

The ideal candidate will also have skill in using statistical, modeling, and 
programming software such as (but not limited to) SAS, R, and MARK, and skill 
in applying statistical techniques such as (but not limited to) multivariate 
and nonparametric methods, generalized linear, linear mixed effects, and 
hierarchical models, spatial and time series analysis; population size 
estimation using mark-recapture, line transect, occupancy, and double sampling 
techniques;  survival analysis, risk analyses, Bayesian approaches, movement 
analysis, and resource selection.

The ideal candidate will have the demonstrated ability to communicate complex 
statistical, mathematical, and modeling concepts clearly and effectively to 
technical and lay audiences in both oral and written format, think critically 
and creatively to apply the appropriate statistical, mathematical, and modeling 
approaches to specific wildlife management questions, be able to manage 
multiple projects, and be able to work as part of a team with diverse members.
The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in a wildlife science or closely 
related field from an accredited college or university. The preferred candidate 
will have a Master's or Doctorate degree.

Position requires possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid 
state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.  Employees who 
drive on state business are subject to driver's license record checks, must 
maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver 
training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.).
