of:  Biological Sciences (Plant Biologist), Assistant/Associate Professor

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The faculty of the Department of Biological Sciences at MSU, Mankato is 
committed to education and the use of research as an educational tool for
undergraduate students and MS thesis students. Research activities will 
likely include developing a research program with grant writing and 
research projects involving undergraduates and graduate students aimed at 
scholarly publication of results. The selected candidate will manage a 
small herbarium (http://cset.mnsu.edu/biology/herbarium). Standard service 
includes, but is not limited to participation in departmental and college 
committees as appropriate. Continued professional development. Faculty are 
also expected to contribute to student growth through academic advising and 
mentoring student research projects.Teaching responsibilities will likely 
include the following courses:


General Biology II (lecture, lab and lab coordination), Flora of Minnesota 
(Plant Taxonomy/Systemics), One course in area of expertise each 
year(Population Ecology, Population Genetics and/or Molecular Genetics, 
Plant Evolutionary Biology, Ecosystem Ecology, Plant Breeding, Plant 
Systematics and Taxonomy, Biogeography, or related area). Additional courses
depending on departmental need/approval. 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Doctorate or ABD in biology or related area. If ABD, degree must be 
conferred on an official transcript and received in Human Resources by 
October 1, 2016.

Research experience in plant biology.

Recent evidence of scholarly activity, as evidenced by peer reviewed 
publications and presentations.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Potential to direct a research program.
Strong communication and presentation skills.
Commitment to working with undergraduates and MS graduate students.
Teaching experience in college courses similar to those listed in the 
responsibilities.
Post-doctoral experience.
Strong publication and external funding record for level of career 
development.
Compatibility of research with Minnesota State University, Mankato’s 
infrastructure.
Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning 
environment.

Department of Biological Sciences has approximately 700 Biology majors and 
75 Environmental Science majors. We offer BS and MS degrees. The Biology
