JOB TITLE: Assistant Professor of Biology

JOB DETAILS

Plant biologist with a background in restoration ecology. We seek a dynamic 
individual with demonstrated excellence in undergraduate education, research 
potential, and commitment to quality service. The successful candidate will 
teach courses including botany and plant physiology, with preferred research 
interests including some aspect of ecological restoration. Service duties 
include managing the biology greenhouse.

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum / Required:

  *   Ph.D. by August, 2016 in Plant Biology, Ecology, or related field
  *   Expertise in plant biology
Preferred:

  *   Background in restoration ecology
  *   Evidence of teaching effectiveness
  *   Demonstrated ability to develop a research program and strong plans for 
impactful service
  *   Post-doctoral experience and previous teaching experience are preferred
RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching responsibilities include contribution to the Environmental Science 
B.S. program, specifically botany and plant physiology in addition to general 
education and specialty courses (such as restoration ecology). A typical 
teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester. Opportunities also exist to 
contribute to the Professional Science Masters in Conservation Biology. 
Participation in course and program assessment is expected. The successful 
candidate will develop a research program in restoration ecology that involves 
undergraduates, including field and/or greenhouse studies. The individual hired 
for this position will be expected to seek extramural funding to support their 
research. Service obligations include, but are not limited to: supporting the 
Environmental Science Program, advisement of undergraduates, managing the 
greenhouse, and providing intellectual contributions to university, civic, 
and/or professional organizations.

$44M science building. The biology department supports undergraduate 
Environmental Science and Applied Science Programs and a Professional Science 
Master’s Program in Conservation Biology. We also serve the university through 
hands-on non-majors and service course offerings.
