*Job Announcement* Position: *Preserve Manager/Staff Scientist at the Mianus River Gorge*
Hours: *Full-time plus benefits* Supervised by:* Executive Director* ______________________________________________________________________________ This position combines work as a staff scientist/biologist in our research and education program with responsibilities to manage the lands of the Mianus River Gorge Preserve in Bedford, NY (www.mianus.org). The ideal candidate has a science background with experience designing and implementing research and monitoring studies along with a willingness to work outdoors on land management projects. The position will work with the Executive Director (ED), the Director of Research and Land Management (DRLM), the Assistant Steward, as well as with high school, undergraduate and graduate students conducting ecological research projects. *Responsibilities:* 1. This position will be responsible for the on-the-ground management of the Mianus River Gorge Preserve including trail design and maintenance, enforcement of Preserve rules and regulations, invasive species management, wildlife inventories, and other duties as assigned. 2. Work with other staff and volunteers to maintain and steward the hiking trails system. Supervise all volunteer work groups. 3. Work with DRLM to develop and implement ecological research projects on the Preserve and at other sites in the tri-state area. 4. Mentor high school researchers and undergraduate interns as needed 5. Work with students to analyze and publish their results and contribute to staff research publications 6. Work with the DRLM to develop and disseminate the Research and Education e-update at least two times annually *Qualifications: * · BS in science-related field, MS preferred. · Demonstrated ability to fully understand and effectively communicate the land protection and scientific research programs of MRG · Strong knowledge of the study design and implementation of ecological scientific research studies · Willingness to work outdoors on physically demanding projects either with other staff, volunteers or alone. · Good people skills, ability to communicate with the public the rules and regulations of the Preserve and work with volunteers and potential supporters · Must be available to work occasional evenings and one weekend/month during April – December when trails are open. · Skills with chainsaw and other land management tools required. · Skills with Microsoft word, excel, statistical software, databases and GIS very helpful. · Knowledge of natural history and flora and fauna identification very helpful. *Compensation:* Salary commensurate with experience Includes medical and retirement benefits *For more information contact:* Rod Christie, Executive Director 914-234-3455 [email protected] -- Chris Nagy, Ph.D. Director of Research and Land Management - Mianus River Gorge, Bedford, NY [email protected] <[email protected]> 914.234.3455 www.mianus.org www.gothamcoyote.com www.wildsuburbiaproject.com
