Seeking Executive Director / Hubbard Brook Research Foundation

The Hubbard Brook Research Foundation (HBRF) seeks an Executive Director.
HBRF, a nonprofit organization founded in 1993, is an organization that
supports the science, policy, and outreach conducted at the Hubbard Brook
Ecosystem Study, which is among the longest running and most influential
ecological studies in the world. Long-term studies at the 8,000-acre Hubbard
Brook Experimental Forest in Woodstock, New Hampshire, have produced major
discoveries about human and natural disturbances to the forested landscape,
including the discovery of acid rain in North America. HBRF supports
scientists from research institutions across the nation and USDA Forest Service
who collaborate on research topics including plant, animal, and microbial
ecology. Hubbard Brook scientists also explore the effects of environmental
changes such as air and water pollution, land-use change, climate change, and
other disturbances on forest, stream and lake ecosystems. HBRF provides
housing and other services for scientists, and conducts policy and education
programs for policymakers, land managers, educators, undergraduates,
stakeholder groups, and other members of the public.

The Executive Director is responsible for interacting with the Hubbard Brook
Committee of Scientists and their home research institutions; managing HBRF
facilities and staff; overseeing public outreach and marketing efforts; working
with a 15-member Board of Trustees to establish organizational policies and
financial goals; and raising funds from public and private sources in support
of HBRF facilities and its integrative program.

At least three years’ experience with nonprofit administration, communications,
and fund raising is required; a background in science or science communications
is not essential but would be preferred.

Location: The location of the main administrative office, currently located in
Woodstock, VT, is flexible. The executive director is expected to regularly
visit other HBRF facilities adjacent to the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest
in Woodstock, NH.

Start Date: June 15, 2016 (negotiable).

Interested applicants should send a letter of interest and résumé, in
confidence, to Brenda McCartney at
[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>,
with the subject line marked “HBRF Executive Director.”

The search committee will begin reviewing applications in late January and
early February.
