The position of Database Administrator is responsible for designing, 
implementing, and managing the database systems and procedures for the 
Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative Information and Data Cooperative 
(GRIIDC). GRIIDC is a team of researchers, data specialists and computer 
system developers who are supporting the development of a data 
management system to store scientific data generated by Gulf of Mexico 
researchers. GRIIDC is housed at the Harte Research Institute for Gulf 
of Mexico Studies located on the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi 
campus.
 
The main duties of this position include:
Designing and developing database tables, views, functions, indexes, and 
custom data types in PostgreSQL 9.x to provide persistent storage for a 
custom enterprise application. 

Maintaining data integrity by implementing, managing, and testing backup 
and recovery solutions, maintaining high availability of database 
systems utilizing offsite replication, ensures security controls and 
measures are applied to database environments, installs, upgrades and 
maintains all PostgreSQL related server and administration software, and 
monitors activity, utilization, exceptions, and database health.

Managing and administering supporting systems and applications and/or 
assists with design, development, and testing of end user applications. 

Producing logical and physical data models, data dictionary, and 
document database structure.

Documenting infrastructure and database management procedures.
