Post-doc or post-MS opportunity in quantitative spatial modeling The successful candidate with work in collaboration with a team of researchers from NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science (NCCOS <http://coastalscience.noaa.gov/>) to develop predictive models for marine species. Responsibilities will include the following: 1. develop quantitative spatiotemporal predictive models and maps of resource distribution and habitat utilization for marine benthic species such as corals 2. estimate population trends through space and time 3. apply statistical techniques for evaluating predictors and sample design 4. manage large datasets of variable spatial and temporal scales
The project team uses a suite of quantitative spatial modeling approaches, decision support tools, and data visualization products to understand impacts of stressors on coastal ecosystems and to inform coastal ecosystem management. NCCOS provides science to support coastal and marine resource management and is the primary science arm of NOAA’s National Ocean Service. Additional project collaborations are with NOAA National Marine Fisheries. Required: - Advanced degree in quantitative ecology, biostatistics or related field **The NRC postdoc position requires a recent PhD **Exceptional post-MS rather than post-PhD candidates are not eligible for an NRC postdoc but may be considered through a JHT contract position. - demonstrated expertise in advanced spatiotemporal statistical modeling (e.g. Bayesian hierarchical models, GAMs, mixed effects), computational analysis and scientific programming (e.g. R, Matlab). A code sample may be requested to demonstrate proficiency - excellent written and oral scientific communication skills - ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment - ability to work effectively with collaborators at multiple NCCOS Centers - processing of a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) and fingerprinting. The postdoctoral scholar position is advertised through NRC's Research Associateship Program <http://sites.nationalacademies.org/pga/rap/> (RAP): http://sites.nationalacademies.org/pga/rap/ as RO# <https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/goog_1992699524>26.09.11.B8249 <http://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=26&ROPCD=260911&RONum=B8249> ( http://nrc58.nas.edu/RAPLab10/Opportunity/Opportunity.aspx?LabCode=26&ROPCD=260911&RONum=B8249).
