PhD Assistantship in Forest Ecology at NC State

NC State University, Department of Forestry and Environmental Resources is
seeking candidates for PhD Assistantships to begin Summer or Fall 2016.
Successful applicants will join a research project aimed at quantifying the
causal relationships between forest structure, diversity, decomposition and
carbon cycling in managed northern hardwood forests. The students will work
with researchers from NCSU, USFS Center for Mycology Research, University
of WI Madison, and University of Maine at a long-term, large-scale, field
experiment established in Northern Wisconsin. Students will work on topics
such as 1) linking the diversity of wood decay fungal communities with
decomposition rates, 2) comparing diversity patterns between managed and
naturally disturbed forest, 3) quantifying the relationship of coarse woody
debris, carbon cycling and soil microbial community, and 4) analyzing the
functional role of biodiversity on productivity and carbon storage.

Qualifications: MS in forest ecology, forestry, biology or related
discipline; demonstrated ability to work independently, but also
collaboratively; and effective writing, communication and quantitative
skills.

Application: Submit a cover letter detailing your qualifications and
research interests, resume, and names and contact information for 3
references to: Dr. Jodi Forrester ([email protected]). Positions open
until filled.
