The Squam Conservation Internship provides skills and experience for future conservation professionals while working as the driving force behind the SLA’s conservation mission. This volunteer internship provides hands-on conservation work experience and certifications over a broad range of activities. Interns serve as campsite hosts and caretakers at our backcountry campsites, work toward the eradication of variable milfoil, help preserve loon populations on Squam, engage both youth and adults in environmental education, and perform other conservation duties such as shoreline restoration and trail maintenance and construction.
For more information go to squamlakes.org/sci Squam Conservation Interns will receive the following as a part of this volunteer internship: Scuba diving certification Weed control diver certification Lake Host certification NH Safe Boating certification NH Commercial boating license Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications Housing with kitchen facilities Travel reimbursement (intern location dependent) Weekly Food reimbursement Internship Candidate Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age on or before May 18, 2016 Have a valid United States driver’s license Be a competent swimmer capable of swimming 500 yards Should have snorkeling experience Be able to lift 65 pounds Able to carry and use heavy tools while hiking up to 8 miles Able to hike at least 8 miles in a day Able to work independently and with a group Available to work on May 18, 2016 Available to work through August 22, 2016 (interns can request special permission to leave no earlier than August 18, 2016, if they have school related commitment) Must apply online (squamlakes.org/sci) Passing certification exams is required For more information or to apply: squamlakes.org/sci
