We seek a research technician to assist in field and laboratory studies of the Florida Everglades. Successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to conduct field work under rigorous conditions, conduct quantitative analyses using SAS or R software, and write technical reports. Candidates with an MS degree in an appropriate field and relevant experience are especially encouraged to apply. Experience with fish and/or macroinvertebrate studies is desirable. Working hours will vary. Institutional Animal Use and Safety (IACUC) training; Demonstrated knowledge and ability to apply boating safety skills. 1. Must be able to meet at start of field work at 6:00 am and complete work days that may extend to 5:00 pm or later without advance notice. 2. Must demonstrate ability to conduct field work in locations lacking cell phone contact and be willing to fly to study sites in a helicopter or ride by airboat. 3. Must demonstrate ability to conduct manual labor outdoors year round in South Florida, including standing waste deep or deeper in water of the Everglades while working. 4. Must be able to lift a 50 lb box to shoulder height. 5. Must provide own transportation to and from either FIU campuses (MMC and BBC) for the start of work at the time set by work plans for the day (6am on field days). 6. Must be able to perform field work at night in the Everglades when needed. 7. Must be willing to work with chemical preservatives used in biology laboratories such as ethanol and formalin. Must demonstrate knowledge of proper use of preservatives consistent with professional norms such as FIU Environmental Health and Safety standards. Must have a bachelor's degree in Biology, Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field. Desired Qualifications: · At least one year experience in field ecology; · Use of Excel, SAS, or R computer programs; · Assist in writing technical reports. · Able to identify South Florida fish and macro-invertebrates, and aquatic plants, or be willing to learn · Knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office suite, and statistical analysis software (SAS or R preferred) · Ability to travel to BBC and MMC as needed in any given work day. Educational Requirements: · Bachelor's degree in related field. Target Salary: $38,000 - $42,000 Advertised Salary $38,000 - $42,000, salary commensurate with experience.
