Job Description
The Landscape Conservation Initiative, a partnership-based,
interdisciplinary research institute at Northern Arizona University, seeks a
Program Manager to lead the Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program at
Northern Arizona University (DDCSP@NAU). DDCSP@NAU is an educational program
created to develop the future generation of conservation leaders. The
program provides scientific, communication and leadership training to
students who are committed to the goals of making a significant contribution
to land, water, and wildlife conservation and expanding the numbers of
currently underrepresented individuals interested in the conservation
profession.

The DDCSP@NAU includes four essential elements: 1) an eight-week summer
immersion program and conservation internship that provides initial exposure
to authentic, compelling environmental issues and builds community among the
student cohort; 2) annual research experiences with conservation scientists
and managers who are enthusiastic about their work and about mentoring young
people; 3) one-week winter conservation workshops on scientific, career, and
leadership topics; and 4) a strong support network that meets regularly (via
Internet) during the academic year to address academic challenges and
clarify career interests, while serving as cohort strengthening and
networking opportunities.

The DDCSP@NAU program consists of two cohorts of rising sophomores and
juniors (admitted in 2014 and 2016) who participate in diverse, hands-on
experiences intended to propel them from an inspiring introduction to the
conservation profession, through a closely mentored exposure to the research
process, and into an in-depth research experience that connects original
science with applications under the guidance of some of the nation’s top
conservation scientists. As students move through the program, we take every
opportunity to build strong and lasting student cohorts that will carry the
students into the future and into their careers in conservation.
