*Camp Counselor * Description: • Assisting with the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Summer Exploration Camp from June 13 to at least August 5, 2016. Camps comprise theme-based activities that capitalize on the unique natural setting of Galena Creek Park and the Sierra Nevada region. Themes include natural and cultural history topics that allow children to experience the outdoors through discovery-based, STEM and environmental education. Camps include hands-on games, hikes, guided activities, field trips, guest presenters, exploration and play. Three weeks of camp are day only, with one day of overnight camping, and the last five weeks are residential camps at WeChMe Lodge. • As the only fully outdoor environmental science field study program in Reno, our goal is to provide local youth with opportunities to experience the outdoors in a safe, fun, nurturing and engaging setting, and to provide academic, STEM education support. Compensation and Benefits: • Weekly stipend of $150, $1,212.44 education award, housing, and a monthly recreational trip. • Trainings provided include but are not limited to: First aid and CPR course. *Environmental Education and Camp Coordinator* • Assist with the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Environmental Science Field Studies Program comprising theme-based activities that capitalize on the unique natural setting of Galena Creek Park and the Sierra Nevada region. Themes include natural and cultural history topics that allow children to experience the outdoors through discovery-based, STEM and environmental education. • Assist in implementation of the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Camps and School Residential Field Studies to ensure the success and safety of these programs. School Break Camps and Residential School Field Studies include hands-on games, hikes, guided activities, field trips, guest presenters, exploration and play. Staff and Students/campers stay in the beautiful WeChMe Lodge from Monday-Friday for four weeks of summer camp and varying length of times for residential school field studies. Compensation and Benefits: • This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a stipend of $10,500. Upon successful completion of the AmeriCorps service term, members shall receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $4,380.55 that can be used for paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college. • Health and dental insurance provided at no cost to member. • Shared, on-site housing is available at no charge. • Trainings provided include but are not limited to: 15-hour Middle Manager ACA Course; First aid; and CPR course. *Naturalist and Environmental Educator (15-weeks)* • Assist with the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Environmental Science Field Studies Program comprising theme-based activities that capitalize on the unique natural setting of Galena Creek Park and the Sierra Nevada region. Themes include natural and cultural history topics that allow children to experience the outdoors through discovery-based, STEM and environmental education. • Assist in implementation of the Great Basin Institute at Galena’s Camps and School Residential Field Studies to ensure the success and safety of these programs. The Galena Creek Recreation Area encompasses Washoe County and U.S. Forest Service lands and is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range, 17 miles from Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The Naturalist/Host will communicate information regarding the Galena Creek Recreation Area’s and Lake Tahoe’s geographic features, recreation sites, hiking and recreation opportunities, and local regulations to visitors. Weekly schedules will include weekend days. The Naturalist will have the opportunity to assist with Environmental Education through school field studies and summer camps for children ages 8-17. Compensation and Benefits: • This is an AmeriCorps position, and candidates will receive a stipend of $3,200. Upon successful completion of the AmeriCorps service term, members shall receive a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the amount of $1,515.55 that can be used for paying off student loans, or paying tuition for a Title IV accredited college. • Shared, on-site housing is available at no charge for Counselors over the age of 18. • Trainings provided include but are not limited to: First aid and CPR course.
