Job Description:
An avian point count technician is needed to assist in conducting grassland
bird research for the Nebraska Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit
from April through June 2016.  Field sites are located throughout the
state of Nebraska covering the habitat diversity of the state. Duties
include independently conducting multiple standardized point count surveys
for all birds daily, and data entry. Positions will support collaborative
research on landscape scale studies of grassland species abundance and
habitat relationships.

Fieldwork will begin early April and continue until late June.  Significant
travel time will be required for this position; technicians will be working
very early mornings and should be comfortable with an unpredictable work
schedule depending on the weather.  Salary is $1500-1700/month DOE.  Housing
(some camping may be required) and use of a field vehicle for work will be
provided.

Qualifications:
Applicants with experience conducting bird surveys and the ability to
identify Eastern birds (particularly grassland species) by sight and sound
preferred.  Additional qualifications include ability to navigate with maps
and GPS to find study sites, passion for field work, excellent communication
skills, ability to live and work in remote areas, a strong work ethic,
willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions, and demonstrated
ability to work well independently and as part of a team. State issued
driver’s license, a good driving record, and CPR/First Aid certification are
required.
