Position Description:  Extension Educator-in-Training, Agriculture and 
Natural Resources
OSU Extension / Pesticide Safety Education Program
Graduate Associateship for the Master in Plant Health Management

JOB DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
The Extension Educator-in-training, Agriculture and Natural Resources 
will assist in developing and contributing to extension education 
efforts of the Pesticide Safety Education Program (PSEP), particularly 
as those efforts relate to county extension educators.  The Educator-in-
training will work collaboratively with The Ohio State University teams 
of Extension professionals to provide assistance with and resource 
materials for agriculture and natural resources programs.  The Graduate 
Associateship (GA) appointment is for full-time graduate study and the 
student will be expected to work 20 hours per week on extension 
programming in the Pesticide Safety Education Program.  

The Pesticide Safety Education Program is part of Ohio State University 
Extension and provides continuing education, new applicator schools, 
print and web-based information for the 30,000 licensed applicators in 
the State of Ohio.  The program helps applicators make informed 
decisions about pesticides and apply them safely and effectively.  For

QUALIFICATIONS: 
1.      An earned Bachelor’s degree is required.  At least one degree in 
an agriculture-related field and experience in agronomic or 
horticultural production is desired.  
2.      Acceptance into The Ohio State University Master in Plant Health 
Management Graduate Program:

Statement of Intent, Curriculum Vitae, three letters of recommendation 
that are familiar with qualifications and potential for graduate study.

3.      Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours with a minimum 
of supervision. 
4.      Internal and external applicants for positions are also required

candidates. Final candidate offer is contingent upon the university’s 
verification of credentials and other information required by law and/or 
university policies or practices based upon the criminal background 
check. 

One Graduate Associateship (GA) is available for full-time graduate 
study starting Autumn 2016 and is projected for 1.5 years of study.  The 
GA includes a stipend and payment of applicable tuition and fees.  GAs 
must be enrolled full-time each semester, including summer, and may not 
hold other appointments during the GA period.  It is expected that the 
MPHM degree requirements will be completed during this program.

Science Master’s program that offers both academic and professional 
training in plant health and related areas.  The program is administered 
by the Departments of Plant Pathology and Entomology in the College of 
Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.
