*Summary of Environmental Science(s) books resulting from recent inquire*

Not clear to me (Jorge) is whether the online resources are available only
at the publisher’s site, requiring yet another login and password, or
whether they are available for use at the schools’ class management
platforms. If “yes” to the latter, what platforms are compatible with the
publishers’ online resources.

01. Cunningham and Cunningham (13th Edition) + Connect

02. Miller, G. T. – Living in the Environment – 18th Edition

A respondent shared this view (herein reproduced with permission): “Most
people use the Miller text. I don't like it, but there really has not been
a much better version. I find it to be to swayed to biology. Maybe I need
to write one! Also, the make a new issue of Miller each year (or most
years), so you can inform students of this and when they buy older issues,
just tell them the chapter name rather than number. All they do is move
stuff around, separate the chapters or combine chapters. The content
doesn't change substantially!“

03. Raven's "Environment", a good text, but heavy on Ecology and perhaps
not as accessible for non-majors.

04. “I have had very positive responses using John Sutter's multimedia
works as springboards for discussion. I use

Joaquin River)

I did not teach ecology this semester, and so don't have any experience
with his climate change (http://www.cnn.com/specials/opinions/two-degrees)
work.

05. *The View from Lazy Point* by Carl Safina
http://www.amazon.com/View-Lazy-Point-Natural-Unnatural/dp/1250002710

06. *Essentials of Environmental Science* by Friedland et al.

07. John Kricher’s book *The Balance of Nature: Ecology’s Enduring Myth*

08. Houtman, A., J. Interlandi, and S. Karr. 2015. *Environmental Science:
For a changing climate*. W.H. Freeman and Company. (ISBN-13:
978-1-4641-6220-6).

“I teach an environmental science lab and lecture session for non-science
majors. I do not use the "connect" option for the textbook. This is a
personal option as most of my students would not access the site for
various reasons. However, individuals who have used it do say it is a nice
companion to the book. The textbook is updated relatively every year and
the information is presented in a way that is not "meaty." I am able to
interject local information or current events into the provided ppt's
without bogging them down with too much information.”

09. “I came across your post on ECOLOG. I am currently teaching a paper
titled Environmental Science to non-science undergraduate students as part
of the curriculum structure in India. I am referring to two cheaply
available books.”

 a. Taxmann’s *Environmental Studies*

https://www.taxmann.com/bookstore/academic/environmental-studies.aspx

 b. Erach Bharucha’s *Environmental Studies for Undergraduate*

This one is available as a PDF online for free
http://www.ugc.ac.in/oldpdf/modelcurriculum/env.pdf

“The first book is pretty much a concise and shorter version of the second
book. It is meant to cover all the topics and help the students get through
the exam. These should help you in giving an Indian perspective on
environmental education. Hope this helps.”

10. *Environment* by Withgott. Withgott “releases an updated text every
three to four years. It necessitates rigorous revision of the lecture, but
we like it a lot.”
