Research Associate is required to work on the ESA climate change initiative
(CCI) which aims to produce a set of essential climate variables (ECVs)
that describe different parts of the Earth system using a long term archive
of Earth Observation (EO) data. Within this framework, the ESA Fire CCI
will provide a multidecadal, multisensor burned area (BA) product, which
will be of use to a broad range to users, such as vegetation and climate
modellers, atmospheric chemistry experts, etc.

The role of the Research Associate (RA) at UCL will involve (i) uncertainty
characterization of the CCI Fire products; (ii) implementation and critical
assessment of different BA detection algorithms. This will entail working
with colleagues involved in the ESA project and the NERC NCEO community, as
well as with scientists in the fire community to implement a set of burned
area algorithms and test their global performance.
