I don't think a day passes without at least a few messages sent to
ECOLOG-L. The list is moderated, so that each message sent to the list
has to be approved (as a way of preventing spam). Although I do this
most of the time, there are occasions when I'm away from the Internet,
like last week when I was rowing my raft through the San Juan River
canyon in Utah. I've often asked postdocs working with me to take over
moderation when I'm not available, and would like to acknowledge help
last week from Dr. Jane Ogilvie, who took time from her field work at
the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory on our phenology research, to
