Position Title: Instructional Aids Associate at The Ohio State University in the School of Environment and Natural Resources (Columbus, OH).
Summary of Duties: This position assists in the development, management and implementation of courses within the Aquatic Sciences curricula offered by the School of Environment & Natural Resources (SENR) with the potential to teach lab and on-line lectures or courses; works directly with faculty, staff and students to ensure that students receive rigorous, accessible, high-quality educational experiences; orders, maintains and repairs laboratory and/or instructional supplies, specimens and equipment; prepares instructional materials and lab set-up for presentations, demonstrations, laboratory and field activities or experiments; prepares, organizes and maintains teaching collections of taxonomic specimens; coordinates and facilitates student access to laboratory facilities, resources and equipment; assists in coordinating dual/multiple sections of the same class; coordinates efforts of student instructional assistant in support of classroom and laboratory activities; assists in the instruction of laboratory and field procedures and activities; travels to nearby field sites to assist in the instruction of field procedures and activities; assists with procuring collection and other appropriate permits; assists with grading of class materials; proctors exams, when necessary; consults with faculty and staff regarding curriculum content, structure, scope and delivery; assists in the development of on-line content (e.g., videos, presentations, slides), laboratory manuals, field guides and other educational and electronic tools for classes in aquatic sciences. Required qualification: Bachelor’s degree in environmental science or an equivalent combination of education and experience; considerable coursework and research experience (2 or more years) related to aquatic sciences; considerable experience (2 or more years) working with high-school, undergraduate and/or graduate students; excellent oral and written communication skills, and demonstrated scholarly activity (e.g., publications, lectures, presentations).
