Dear colleagues,
We have organized a session in this year's AGU Fall Meeting (12-16 Dec, 2016), titled “*Vegetation phenology in terrestrial ecosystems: advances in observations, mechanisms, modeling and implications*”. We welcome your contributions to our session. Please see below for the detailed session description. So far we have the following committed speakers, Dr. Joe Berry and Dr. Joe Wright. *Please note the deadline for abstract submission is Aug 3, 2016. *Thank you for your attention and apologize for the potential cross-posting. However, the key questions as to what controls vegetation phenology, and how to correctly represent leaf phenology in earth system models remains largely unknown, leaving much uncertainties in future predictions. Our session would like to advance these topics by drawing the recent progress in novel methods and data of phenological observations from species-level to ecosystem-level, new approaches and theories to the underlying drivers, and model development and practices within the context of the Earth system and climate change. In particular, the integration of remote-sensing data from phenocams, UAVs, and satellites with in-situ observations is welcomed. Our session is also looking forward to interdisciplinary studies such as the implications of vegetation phenology on ecological forecasting and policy making. *Primary Convener: Xiaolin Zhu*, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, The Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, Kowloon, Hong Kong *Conveners: Jin Wu*, Brookhaven National Laboratory, Environmental & Climate Sciences Department, Upton, NY, United States, *Xiangtao Xu*, Princeton University, Geosciences, Princeton, NJ, United States and *Min Chen*, Carnegie Institution for Science, United States *Index Terms:* 0414 Biogeochemical cycles, processes, and modeling <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/start?words=0414> [BIOGEOSCIENCES] 0426 Biosphere/atmosphere interactions <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/start?words=0426> [BIOGEOSCIENCES] 0439 Ecosystems, structure and dynamics <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/start?words=0439> [BIOGEOSCIENCES] 0480 Remote sensing <https://agu.confex.com/agu/fm16/preliminaryview.cgi/start?words=0480> [BIOGEOSCIENCES] Jin Wu, on behalf of Xiaolin Zhu, Jin Wu, Xiangtao Xu, and Min Chen
