Goal of project is to remove ironwood (Casuarina equisetifolia) from 2
islands at Wake Atoll. The project base is in Honolulu. Fieldwork will be
on Wake Island Atoll. This is an incredible opportunity  to visit a remote
(with very restricted access) tropical atoll with many species of breeding
seabird, and to gain experience in island restoration.

   1.

   Duties include but are not limited to the following:
   -

      Assist w/ hand removal of seedlings and small saplings and

      treatment of larger specimens of Ironwood trees w/ herbicide (Garlon
      4).
      -

      Will require a use of a hand saw and pick
      -

      Will need to collect and record data using GPS/GIS to identify and
      map

      areas treated.
      -

      Several other species of invasive plants will also be removed.

   Applicant must be physically fit and prepared to work hard in very hot
   and humid tropical conditions. Must be able to work in a remote and
   isolated location. Return flight from Honolulu to Wake Island, housing in
   air-conditioned quarters and meals will be provided.

Seeking a TEMPORARY field associate to work employment periods Dec 2, 2016
to Jan 7, 2017 and tentative dates of Mar 3, 2017 to Mar 31, 2017; or will
consider two temporary field associates to work one employment period each.
Hire(s) will be employees of The Research Corporation of the University of
Hawaii (RCUH) under the auspices of The Pacific Cooperative Studies Unit
(PCSU).

1st Employment Period: Dec 2, 2016 to Jan 7, 2017:

Dec 2, 2016 – Start Date in Honolulu
Dec 7, 2016 – (Wed) flight leaves HNL for Wake Island
Jan 7, 2017 – (Sat) flight leaves Wake Island for Honolulu (arrives Jan 7,
2017)

2nd Employment Period: March 1, 2017 to March 31, 2017 tentative dates
(depends on flight schedule)

Mar 1, 2017 – Start date in Honolulu (tentative)
Mar 3, 2017 – Flight leaves HNL for Wake Island (tentative)
Mar 31, 2017 – Flight leaves Wake Island for Honolulu (arrives Mar 31, 2017
(tentative))

Hourly Pay Rate: $21.63/hour
