in
the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources
<https://ag.purdue.edu/fnr/Pages/default.aspx> (FNR) at Purdue University
seeks a highly motivated, well-organized postdoctoral associate with strong
remote sensing skills to work on NSF funded interdisciplinary projects (Award
#1550639
<https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1550639&HistoricalAwards=false>
 and Award #1638702
<https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?AWD_ID=1638702&HistoricalAwards=false>).
The postdoc will conduct research primarily focused on forest canopy
structural influences on ecosystem processes (e.g., carbon cycling, plant
invasion). The postdoc will be responsible for analyzing data from a
variety of sources including terrestrial, aerial, and satellite remote
sensing systems.

Candidates must have a PhD, preferably in forest ecology or a related
field. Candidates with a publication record demonstrating experience
combining remote sensing methods (Landsat, MODIS, lidar) and ecological
field work to address research questions will be especially competitive. In
addition to analysis of remote sensing data, this position may require some
travel during the field season to collect additional site-level ecological
data. Excellent programming and analytical skills in R are highly
desirable. The postdoc will assume a leadership role in publishing project
results and must have strong written and oral communication skills. Purdue
and FNR are committed to increasing diversity and we encourage applications
from women and minority scholars.

Review of application materials will begin on December 19, 2016 and
continue until the position is filled. Salary starts at $48K with benefits.
The position is fully funded for two years with an initial appointment of
12 months and the option to extend the appointment based on acceptable
annual progress. The person selected for this position will have the
opportunity to collaborate with a group of researchers at several
institutions including Dr. Songlin Fei
<http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~sfei/index.php> at Purdue, Dr. Chris Gough
<http://www.people.vcu.edu/~cmgough/> at Virginia Commonwealth University,
and Dr. Robert Fahey <http://faheylab.weebly.com/lab-news> at University of
Connecticut. Purdue Department of Forestry and Natural Resources is
nationally ranked (7th overall in Forestry and Forest Science and 13th
overall in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, 2010 NRC rankings).
