The School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability (SESES) invites 
applications for the position of Assistant Professor in Environmental Social 
Science. This is a full-time, benefit eligible, tenure-track appointment.  We 
seek an interdisciplinary environmental social scientist who will contribute to 
existing strengths in environmental research, teaching and practice in SESES. 
We welcome applicants with interdisciplinary training and research experience 
in a variety of fields, including but not limited to the areas of environmental 
policy and governance, conservation biology, economics, geography, 
environmental studies and sciences, sociology, sustainable development and 
climate science. The successful candidate will work in coupled natural and 
human systems and at the interface between science and policy.



This position builds on university strengths in Environmental Sustainability. 
Northern Arizona University seeks to bring together scholars within SESES and 
across colleges (College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences; College 
of Social and Behavioral Sciences; College of Arts and Letters; and W. A. 
Franke College of Business) to foster interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, 
and a range of expertise to secure large interdisciplinary sustainability 
focused grants.   Scholars are sought to develop new collaborations that will 
enable interdisciplinary science-based, community-oriented scholarship and 
teaching on local to global sustainability challenges.



Minimum qualifications include a PhD in a social science, or in an 
interdisciplinary environmental program with a social science emphasis
