Ducks Unlimited seeks three highly-motivated research technicians to
assist with waterfowl surveys from February 14, 2017 to August 18, 2017.
A successful applicant should expect to participate in two separate
research studies: 1) a waterfowl spring migration study in the Rainwater
Basin of Nebraska (NE) and 2) a waterfowl productivity study assessing
the impacts of energy development on duck pair and brood numbers in the
Prairie Pothole Region of northwest North Dakota (ND) and northeast
Montana. Field operations will be based out of Wood River, NE from
February 14, 2017 – April 14, 2017 and then stationed out of Stanley,
Donnybrook, or Crosby, ND until August 18, 2017.

Major responsibilities will include properly identifying duck and goose
pairs to species and social groups and duck broods to species and age
class. Successful applicants will be expected to work at least five days
each week (i.e., 60-80 hours per week). Some weekend work will be
required. Field work is physically and mentally demanding and takes
place under challenging conditions. Therefore, only enthusiastic,
dedicated individuals should apply. A strong interest in waterfowl and
wetlands ecology, desire to spend long days and early mornings in the
field, and determination to get the job done well is required.
Inquisitive, detail-oriented, and self-motivated applicants are
preferred. Experience identifying waterfowl and navigating using hard-
copy maps are also preferred skills. Successful applicants will be
expected to work safely and effectively in a rural setting without
direct supervision. A valid driver’s license and clean driving record is
required.

Research technicians for this position will conduct a spring migration
survey from approximately 14 February ~ 14 April, breeding pair surveys

Research technicians will be paid a competitive wage. Housing and work
vehicles will be provided for this position at all locations.
