Summary of the position: 
The Department of Social Science seeks a Tenure Track Assistant Professor or
contract faculty member with a specialization in Geographic Information
Science beginning in August 2017. The Geography, Environmental Planning and
Tourism program seeks a dynamic colleague committed to teaching excellence,
student development, and service with experience applying GIS within and
beyond the social sciences. The successful candidate will have experience
engaging undergraduate students in applied GIS research to analyze and solve
current societal problems within these fields. Preferred areas of
specialization include community resilience planning, political policy,
public health, population dynamics, or tourism market analysis. We seek a
broadly trained individual who will continue to support existing
relationships within environmental science, biology and meteorology, as well
as expanding the application of GIS throughout other major programs across
the campus.

Rank will be at Assistant Professor based on prior university experience and
PhD in Geography or a related field. Applicants without a PhD will be
considered for contract faculty position. This position has in-class
teaching responsibilities and potential opportunities for online
instruction. The standard faculty teaching load is 12-credits per semester.

Acceptable Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in Geography, GIScience, or closely related discipline by time of
appointment for Assistant Professor position.
Master’s degree in Geography, GIScience, or related field for a contract
position.
Demonstrated ability and passion to teach undergraduate-level GIS courses in
a student centered environment.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate with professional and academic colleagues.
Evidence of involving students in applied research and
professional/community service.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
