Assistant Professor – Microbiology Description The Department of Natural Sciences at the Oregon Institute of Technology (Oregon Tech) is accepting applications for a full-time, tenure-track, 9-month faculty position in microbiology at the rank of Assistant Professor. Start date will be September 2017. The position will serve students in a range of programs including Biology-Health Sciences, Medical Lab Sciences, Nursing, Dental Hygiene, and Environmental Sciences, with an emphasis on medical microbiology. Many of the alumni from our Biology-Health Sciences major go on to programs in medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine and other graduate medical professions, as well as graduate programs in fields like molecular and cell biology or biochemistry. Oregon Tech, located in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is the only public polytechnic university in the Pacific Northwest. Specializing in engineering and applied health programs, Oregon Tech also offers a variety of other professionally-oriented degree programs, including microbiology. Situated in the Klamath Basin and overlooking the scenic Upper Klamath Lake, Oregon Tech’s campus is nestled in a small city surrounded by natural beauty and within easy driving distance of Crater Lake National Park, Lava Beds National Monument in Tulelake, California, and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. Minimum Qualifications A Ph.D. in a relevant discipline at the time of appointment is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in immunology and/or cell biology. An interdisciplinary capacity to address the interests of our diverse study body through student-focused education is desirable. Applicants must have excellent communication skills, a strong commitment to supporting student success, and dedication to high-quality undergraduate instruction with an applied, hands-on emphasis. Ideal candidates will have an established record of teaching effectiveness, application of applying innovative best practices in undergraduate courses, and advising students for careers, particularly in biomedical fields.
