Hello fellow marine biologists,

My name is Jessica Petereit and i am currently EMBC+ Student ( Master of marine
biodiversity and
conservation) at the University of Algarve (Portugal). I am 23 years old and
did my bachelor thesis in
Bremen (Germany) with the tropical center for marine ecology (ZMT). Where i
worked with respiration
experiments on clownfish (A. frenatus).
I am very interested in the ecology and conservation of sharks and would like
to ask you if one of you
have a hint for me where to do my master thesis with sharks. I already did an
internship on the Bahamas
with shark- human interactions and furthermore a volunteering month in south
africa where i was doing
underwater surveys.
While i studied biology, with a specialization in marine biology, i worked 3
years in the center for tropical
marine ecology and was responsible for different kind of tasks. For example the
breeding of clownfish,
taking bloodsamples, maintenance of the aquaria tanks, coral reproduction
(asexual and sexual), sea
cucumber measurements and analysis of fatty acids.
In the meantime i worked as well as assistant instructor in the local diving
center and did my GUE
fundamental diver recently in october 2016 and i am going to do my scientific
diver next month.
Furthermore i did an internship with coral restoration on curacao and worked in
the Alfred Wegner
institute for polar and marine sciences (AWI).
My main focus for the future will be on conservation and ecology and therefore
i would like to do my
thesis around this topic.
I am a fast learning student and a hard worker. I am very ambitous and eager
and do not shy away from
physical work and i realy hope that i can get a chance to gain more knowledge
and experience during
my Master Thesis. The thesis would start in January 2018 and i need to be
finished by June 2018.

Thank you very much for all your help and hints and i wish you all a very good
start in 2017 :)

King regards

Jessica
